Getting My Fix

In the normal routine of the week, Saturdays are usually the only day when I can take time just to go out and roam around with my camera. So when I wake up on a Saturday morning, looking forward to getting out and doing a little exploring with the E-510, rain hitting the roof is not what I want to hear. Guess what I heard when I woke up last Saturday morning?

It had apparently been raining most of the night, and I knew that even if it stopped immediately, the trees would be dripping for hours, so a trip to the woods was out. I decided to head to Waynesville, and hope that the rain would subside long enough for me to get some Fall photos in town. Waynesville is a growing little town, but it has done a good job of preserving its trees in spite of new construction and development. During Fall, there’s usually a good deal of color to be found right there in town.

By the time I got to Waynesville, the rain had slacked up some. It was between a light drizzle and a mist. I decided I could keep my camera inside my jacket, and risk exposing it to the elements for some quick shots of Fall in town. Fellow photographers know what I’m talking about: when you need a fix, you need a fix, and you’ll take certain risk to get a few exposures. Instead of shooting up at the trees and getting rain drops on my lens, I decided to concentrate on signs of Fall on the ground. Yesterday’s post was one example; here’s another. (Click on photo to enlarge.) All in all, it turned out to be a pleasant morning in spite of the rain. I got to get out with my camera, the E-510 survived the rain, and I came home with a few decent photographs. Not a bad way to end a week!
