From The Archives
Submitted by My Viewfinder Blog
Periodically, I go through my photo files to see what I’ve done in the past that might stir my creative juices for something to shoot today. I sometimes come across photos that I’d forgotten about, but nonetheless are among my favorites. These are two in that category. I photographed these wrought iron balconies in the French Quarter in New Orleans on a trip there in 2004. The way the afternoon sun created almost perfectly etched shadows displays the intricacy of these famous balconies more beautifully than in any photos of them that I had attempted previously. Those shadows would only be in that position for a short time during the afternoon at that time of year (late December), and I just happened to be there to see it. It was definitely a case of “f8 and be there”, the old photographer’s maxim for interesting photos. (Click on photos to enlarge.)
