Barn With Yellow Roof
Submitted by My Viewfinder Blog
Although rust is slowly taking over, the unique yellow paint on the roof of this barn still makes this barn a landmark in Maggie Valley, NC. How many yellow-roofed barns have you seen? (Click on photo to enlarge.)

I’m currently reading The Ongoing Moment by Geoff Dyer, a book that explores the history of photography by examining the works of several notable photographers. Walker Evans, one of my favorites, receives a significant amount of discussion in the book. I have always been amazed at Evans’ ability to know what future generations of viewers of his documentary photography would find interesting. It is certain that photographs he made in the 1930s are more fascinating to us today than they were to viewers of that era. Dyer points out that this was an objective of much of Evans’ work. He quotes Evans from a 1961 interview as saying that he “was, and is, interested in what any present time will look like as the past.” I, too, share that interest.
